October 22-24, 2008 - Third Conference on Earthquake Hazards in the Eastern San Francisco Bay Area: Science, Hazard, Engineering and Risk. The conference will be held at CSU East Bay in Hayward. Papers for the Conference Proceedings Volume are due January 15, 2009.

March 10, 2008 - 75th Anniversary of the Long Beach Earthquake
CGS has created a special webpage and poster commemorating the earthquake and its aftermath. Because this earthquake caused significant damage to schools in the area, the California Legislature passed the Field Act requiring the State Architect to review and inspect construction of new public school facilities in the state. June 28, 2007 - Notice of Working Group Meeting on the AB1925 Report to the Legislature on Accelerating Geologic Carbon Sequestration Strategies at 801 K Street, Twentieth Floor, Room 2016 (John Muir Room), Sacramento, California
The California Department of Conservation, in conjunction with the California Energy Commission, will conduct a workshop to examine and discuss the technical, economic, and institutional issues relevant to California’s consideration of geologic CO2 sequestration as a climate change mitigation measure. This workshop is part of the process that the Dept. of Conservation and the Energy Commission are using to meet the requirement of Assembly Bill 1925 to produce a report by November 1, 2007 for the Legislature that contains “recommendations for how the state can develop parameters to accelerate the adoption of cost-effective geologic sequestration strategies for long-term management of industrial carbon dioxide. Interactive map forecasting strong shaking anywhere in California within 24-hours released by the U.S. Geological Survey
The U.S. Geological Survey has released an interactive map showing the probability that ground shaking exceeding Modified Mercalli Intensity VI will occur anywhere in California in the next 24-hours. The probability is represented by a shaded color scale on the statewide map. View the map.
